Exploring Zurich

Saturday was Zuerich day. What a beautiful city! The river Limmat runs right through the old city were our City Backpackers Hostel is located. Adam and I had a fun time looking at fish, ducks, and the biggest swans either of us have ever seen! Besides this wildlife watching, we visited a few churches dating back to the 1500’s: Grossmuenster, Fraumuenster, and St. Peter’s Church. Grossmuenster was especially interesting. There were crypts in the lower level and for a couple Swiss Francs we got to climb the stairs to the lookout balcony in one of Grossmuenster’s towers. The view was spectacular! We could see all of Zuerich, nestled in the foothills of the Alps, the Limmat flowing up throughout the city, and Limmat’s lake, spread out before the snow-capped Alps.

We finished out the day with a boat ride on the river and lake.  For dinner we walked around much of the old city surrounding our hostel trying to find a place to eat with a meal under 30 Swiss Francs (which is about $30). We ended up settling for a Doener! This Mediterranean wrap is a German favorite (and was under $10). Despite rainy weather and cooler temps we had a great day!
