A Glimpse of Bregenz and Feldkirch, Austria

Welcome to my Bregenz adventures! This is the door to my Host Frau's house. Her name is Frau Eva. She is very sweet. The home is very beautifully decorated I think. Modest but very nice. There are three floors and Felicia and I are living in the top floor and have a wonderful view of Pfaender Mountain! Frau Eva's dog, Nichola, is also very sweet! Click on the pictures to view them larger!
When I walk out from the house to the street, I look to the left and see an old chapel and in the far distance, the semi snowy Alps.
Looking straight across the street, there is a little recycling center and a kindergarten.
I head to the right, through a very nice neighborhood, to get to town and school. It's a .8 mile walk, or about 20 minutes, one way.
I pass many beautiful roses on my walk! Pinks, reds, yellows...all so pretty!
This is our Studienzentrum, or "school." Besides the Kentucky program, it is used by German-speaking distance-learning students for a variety of topics.
The city of Bregenz is filled with fountains that provide "Trinkwasser": drinking water!
Bregenz has a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque/Rococo architecture. The latter style is seen in the "See Kapelle", or lake chapel, in the background. The guy in the foreground...I don't know what his style is. We in the Bregenz program fondly refer to him as the "crazy suit guy." We have randomly noted him around Bregenz in suits of all the primary colors, and sparkly ties, it's quite a sight.
The group took a day trip to Feldkirch to learn about some history of Austria. We saw a bunch of really old stuff.

For lunch I had kettle-cooked couscous and apple sauce...DELICIOUS and cheap!

We visited this castle in life size.
You'll see this a lot scribbled in chalk on the tops of door-frames on houses and businesses in southern Germany and Austria. In Latin it means something like God bless this house. It's written every year, and so this year it looks like 20+C+M+B+11.

That's all for Feldkirch!
